ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN OCTOBER
Saints celebrated on the 30th of October
BLESSED JOHN SLADE, MARTYR
Blessed John Slade was a native of Manston, Dorcestershire, was educated at Oxford, and a school master. John denied King Henry VIII's supremacy in religious matters and was arrested and tried with Blessed John Bodey. They were condemned in April, 1583, for maintaining the old religion and denying the Royal Supremacy. There was apparently a feeling that this sentence was unjust and illegal, and they were actually tried and condemned again at Andover, August 19, 1583, on the same indictment.
They were hanged, drawn, and quartered at Winchester. They were beatified in 1929.
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of the blessed John may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
