Saints celebrated on the 8th of May
SAINT ACATHIUS, MARTYR
Today, we also commemorate Saint Acathius. The Roman Martyrology states:
"At Constantinople, in the persecution of Diocletian and Maximian, Saint Acathius, a centurion, who, being denounced as a Christian by the tribune Firmus, and cruelly tortured at Perinthus by the judge Bibian, was finally condemned to death at Byzantium by the proconsul Flaccinus. His body was afterwards miraculously brought to the shore of Syllacium, where it is preserved with due honour."
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Acathius may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
