SAINT FELIX AND COMPANIONS, MARTYRS
Today, we also commemorate Saint Felix and Companions. The Roman Martyrology states:
"At Valence, in France, the holy martyrs Felix, priest, Fortunatus and Achilleus, deacons, who were sent there to preach the word of God by blessed Irenaeus, bishop of Lyon, and converted the greater portion of that city to the faith of Christ. These martyrs were cast into prison by the commander Cornelius, were a long time scourged, had their legs crushed, were bound to wheels in motion, and stifled with smoke whilst stretched on the rack, and finally died by the sword."
PRAYER:
Grant to your Church, we beseech you, O Lord, through the intercession of your holy martyrs Felix, Fortunatus and Achilleus, not to think high-mindedly, but to grow in humility pleasing to you; that, despising what is base, she may with unbounded love diligently do whatever is right. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
