Saints celebrated on the 14th of July
SAINT PHOCAS, BISHOP AND MARTYR
Today, we also commemorate Saint Phocas. The Roman Martyrology states:
"At Sinope, in Pontus, the martyrs Saint Phocas, bishop of that city. Under the emperor Trajan, after having been imprisoned, bound, struck with the sword and exposed to the fire for Christ, he took his flight to heaven. His remains were brought to Vienne, in France, and deposited in the church of the holy apostles."
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Phocas may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
