BLESSED FRANCISZEK ROGACZEWSKI, PRIEST AND MARTYR
Born on December 23, 1892 in Lipinki, Poland, Franciszek Rogaczewskit studied for the priesthood and was ordained in Gdańsk (Danzig) in 1918. As pastor of Christ the King parish, he was a highly renowned and a much sought-after confessor. Fr Franciszek was arrested during the Second World War (on September 1, 1939). For months after that, he had to endure torture and was eventually shot to death on January 11, 1940 while imprisoned at Stutthof concentration camp (Sztutowo). Fr Franciszek was beatified by Pope John Paul II. His feast day is January 11; he is also commemorated on June 12 along with the other Polish Martyrs of World War II.
