CONQUES
Conques (pronounced kongk') is a place in the French. Dept. Aveyron, Arrond. Rodez, on the Dourdon. The most important building is an 11th century Romanesque church which was part of a former Benedictine abbey. [It was an important stop on the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela as it houses the relics of Saint Faith (Fides, Foy], Virgin and Martyr. Since 1873, the church has been staffed by a small community of Premonstratensians from Frigolet.] This building features noteworthy sculptures on the portal and a rich church treasure (medieval goldsmith's work). Conques has (1901) 420 inhabitants.
