BLESSED ROGER DICKENSON, PRIEST AND MARTYR
Blessed Roger Dickenson [Dicconson], priest and martyr was born in Lincoln, England; he suffered martyrdom by being hanged, drawn, and quartered at Winchester, July 7, 1591.
Following his seminary studies at the English College of Reims, Roger Dickenson was ordained in 1583 and returned to England to minister to the spiritual needs of a persecuted flock that was scattered throughout the countryside.
For the crime of being a Catholic priest he was arrested by government agents along with Bl. Ralph Milner, who acted as his escort as he travelled between villages. Until their trial and execution, they were imprisoned in Winchester jail. Fr Dickenson was beatified by Pius XI on December 15, 1929.
