Bl. Richard Yaxley was born around 1560 at Boston, Lincolnshire, England, the third son of William Yaxley and his wife Rose Langton. He went to Rheims in 1582 to study for the priesthood. Ordained in 1585, he began his labours in and around Oxford in February 1586. He was arrested with Bl. George Nichols and two others. All were interrogated at Oxford. Sent to London for further questioning, they were imprisoned at Bridewell. Fr Yaxley was taken to the Tower of London as a close prisoner on May 25, 1589, and appears to have been racked frequently until sent back to Oxford on June 30, to stand trial for treason. Following his execution, (he was hanged, drawn, and quartered on July 5, 1589) his head was placed on a pike at Oxford Castle and his other remains on the four gates of the city. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II on November 22, 1987 with George Haydock and companions.

SERVANT OF GOD JACQUES HAMEL, PRIEST AND MARTYR "Jacques Hamel (30 November 1930 - 26 July 2016) was a French Catholic priest who served in Saint-Étienne-du-Rouvray. On July 26, 2016, Hamel was murdered during the 2016 Normandy church attack by two Muslim men pledging allegiance to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant while he celebrated Mass in his church." (From Wikipedia) Father Hamel, 85, still officiated regularly as auxiliary at the church in St Étienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen, Normandy, France, and in neighbouring Elbeuf, local media reported, stepping in when the parish’s regular priest, Father Auguste Moanda-Phuati, was busy. He was master of arts in one of our universities; but going abroad to Douay, in Flanders, was received into the English college there, 1576, and made priest in 1577; and the year following sent upon the mission.
