WELCOME!

CASPAR NAGEL, MONK

Caspar Nagel, remembered on March 17, was Franciscan from Vienna, who for reasons of humility adopted the name Pater Asinus¹. He went to his eternal reward in 1556.

(Information from Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, Volume 1, Augsburg, 1885, p. 571)

¹Asinus is a Latin masculine noun meaning "ass" or "donkey". It is frequently used figuratively to mean a blockhead, fool, or dullard. The term is the root of the English adjective "asinine," meaning stupid or silly.
