  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MAY Saints celebrated on the 7th of May SAINTS EWALD AND SIXTUS, MARTYRS Saints Ewald and Sixtus (Evaldus [Eovaldus] et Sixtus) are commemorated on May 7. Ewald seems to be an Old German name borne by a man who entered the Roman military service and came to Gerunda (Girona), an ancient episcopal city in Spain, where he was martyred under Dacian along with a certain Sixtus. An ancient legend runs thus: "In the city of Celran lived a pious peasant who daily attended holy Mass. One night, an angel appeared to him in his sleep and said: 'Servant of God, go to that vineyard of yours next to the church of the virgin and martyr Saint Thekla. There you will find the bodies of two saints who suffered for their faith in Jesus.   ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN SEPTEMBER Saints celebrated on the 1st of September SAINT XYSTUS, BISHOP OF REIMS, MARTYR Today, we also commemorate Saint Xystus. The Roman Martyrology states:  "At Reims, in France, Saint Xystus [Sixtus], disciple of the blessed apostle Peter, who was consecrated by him the first bishop of that city, and received the crown of martyrdom under Nero." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Xystus may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

SAINT SIXTUS III., POPE  ⬅️ Saintly Popes - Index [He is also commemorated on March 28 . ] Saint Sixtus (Xystus) was consecrated July 31, 432; died 440. Previous to his accession he was prominent among the Roman clergy and in correspondence with Saint Augustine .  HE WAS IN CORRESPONDENCE WITH ST AUGUSTINE He approved the Acts of the Council of Ephesus and endeavoured to restore peace between  Cyril of Alexandria and John of Antioch. He defended the pope’s right of supremacy over Illyricum against the local bishops and the ambitious designs of Proclus of Constantinople.  HE RESTORED ST MARY MAJOR At Rome he restored the Basilica of Liberius, now known as Saint Mary Major, enlarged the Basilica of Saint Lawrence-Without-the-Walls, and obtained precious gifts from the Emperor Valentinian III for St Peter’s and the Lateran Basilica.
