SAINT SOPHRONIUS, BISHOP - 8 DECEMBER

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN DECEMBER Saints celebrated on the 8th of December SAINT SOPHRONIUS, BISHOP Today, we also commemorate Saint Sophronius. The Roman Martyrology states:  "In Cyprus, the holy bishop Sophronius, who was a devoted protector of orphans and widows, and a friend to the poor and the oppressed." PRAYER: Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Sophronius may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

ST SOPHRONIUS, PATRIARCH OF JERUSALEM, CONFESSOR - 11 MARCH

  ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN MARCH   Saints celebrated on the 11th of March WELCOME! SAINT SOPHRONIUS, PATRIARCH OF JERUSALEM, CONFESSOR  Saint Sophronius was a native of Damascus, and made such a progress in learning that he obtained the name of the Sophist. He lived twenty years near Jerusalem, under the direction of John Moschus, an holy hermit, without engaging himself in a religious state.  THEY TRAVELLED TO EGYPT These two great men visited together the monasteries of Egypt, and were detained by St John the Almoner, at Alexandria, about the year 610, and employed by him two years in extirpating the Eutychians, and in reforming his diocese.  John Moschus wrote there his Spiritual Meadow which he dedicated to Sophronius.
