SAINT FEAST DAY 29 NOVEMBER: ST SATURNINUS

ALL SAINTS CELEBRATED IN NOVEMBER

Saints celebrated on the 29th of November

WELCOME!

SAINT SATURNINUS, BISHOP AND MARTYR

St Saturninus (St Sernin) was the first bishop of Toulouse, during the consulate of Decius and Gratus (250 A. D.) His preaching made numerous converts. In his Acts, which are mentioned by St Gregory, it is described how Saturninus had to pass a Pagan temple to reach his little church.

HIS PRESENCE DISPLEASED THE PAGANS

The Pagan priests blamed St Saturninus’ presence for the continued silence of their oracles. One day they seized him and told him to worship their idols. Upon his refusal, they tied him to the legs of a bull, which dragged him around the town, until the rope snapped. Pious Christian women took his remains and buried them. Eventually they were transferred to St Sernin by his successors, St Hilary and St Exuperius.

PRAYER:

O God, who give us the joy of celebrating the anniversary of the death of blessed Saturninus, your Martyr, grant that we may be helped by his merits. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
