WELCOME!
SAINT HILDEGARDE OF BINGEN, ABBESS
St Hildegarde [Hildegard], Virgin; memorial: September 17 (12th century). Born A.D. 1098 in the Lower Palatinate (Germany), she took the veil in the Abbey of Mount St Disibode.
Marvellous for her gifts of prophecy, she wrote a Book of Revelations which received the approval of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux and of Pope Eugenius III.
SHE REMOVED WITH SOME OF THE SISTERS TO BINGEN
When abbess of the monastery, as her community had grown over-numerous, she removed with some of the Sisters to Mount St Rupert near Bingen, where she died A.D. 1179.
Her writings have come down to us, but with grave interpolations.
Information from The Book of Saints, 1921, by the Monks of Ramsgate
PRAYER:
Grant, we beseech you, almighty God, that the venerable feast of Saint Hildegarde may increase our devotion and promote our salvation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
