Saints celebrated on the 2nd of September
SAINT INGRID OF SWEDEN, WIDOW
Saint Ingrid, foundress and prioress (Ingrid Elofsdotter of Skänninge, Ingrid Elovsdotter), born around 1235 in Skänninge in Östergötland in Sweden, the daughter of one of the most important aristocratic families in the country, married at a young age and was widow not long after. After the death of her husband, she and her siblings founded the first Dominican convent in Sweden on their property in Skänninge.
THE PILGRIMAGE
After a pilgrimage to the seven pilgrimage churches in Rome and Jerusalem, she herself entered her monastery and was its first prioress from 1281. St Ingrid passed to her eternal reward on September 2, 1282 or October 9, 1282.
