WELCOME!

SAINT MARIAM THRESIA MANKIDIYAN, FOUNDRESS

June 8 is the feast day of Saint Mariam Thresia Mankidiyan. She was canonised on October 13, 2019 by Pope Francis. Saint Mariam was born on April 26, 1876 at Trichur, Kerala, India.

A VOW OF CHASTITY

Having made a vow of chastity aged ten, she felt called to religious life. In 1913, she received permission to set up her own house at Puthenchira and on May 14, 1914, she founded the Congregation of the Holy Family. She became the first superior of the order. They led a life of prayer and strict penance, much like hermits. They also visited the sick and helped the poor and needy.

THE CONGREGATION OF THE HOLY FAMILY

In 1926, an object fell on Saint Mariam's leg, causing a wound. Her injuries continued getting worse, and she was admitted to the local hospital. The doctors deemed her condition to be fatal, and she was moved back to her convent. On June 7, 1926, she received her final sacraments and the Viaticum. The next day, Saint Mariam died from her leg wound, exacerbated by her diabetes. Her final words were, "Jesus, Mary and Joseph; I give you my heart and my soul."

PRAYER:

May the intercession of Saint Mariam commend us to you, so that through her merits we may obtain that which we cannot accomplish by our own. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
