BLESSED BARTHOLUS, PRIEST

Blessed Bartholus is called a hermit (solitaire) by Migne. Bartolus, was born to noble parents at Castell Saint Geminiano in the Florentine region. He was the fruit of his parents' prayer after twenty years of childless marriage.

A GREAT LOVE FOR HOLY CHASTITY

From childhood he showed a great love for chastity, and when his father wanted to implement marriage plans for him when he had become an adolescent, Bartholus fled to Pisa. There he stayed at first with the Benedictines, but subsequently entered the third order and was ordained a priest.

CHRIST APPEARED TO HIM

In his old age Christ appeared to him and announced that he would come in eighty-one days and fetch him to Paradise. He died on December 12, 1300 and after his death was glorified by God through many miracles.
