WELCOME!
BEATRICE VENIERA
Beatrice Veniera - who is remembered on September 9 - was a Greek woman from Negroponte. [Negroponte is the medieval Venetian name for the city of Chalkida and the broader island of Euboea in Greece. The region is, to this day, famous for its medieval Venetian castles, towers, and fortresses. The most famous historical event is the Siege of Negroponte in 1470, when troops of the Ottoman Empire savagely attacked the city.]
SHE BUILT A HOSPITAL FOR PILGRIMS
Beatrice fled to Venice during the siege of her hometown by the Turks in 1471, lived there in community with several others, built a hospital for pilgrims, and died in the Lord in 1509.
