Saints celebrated on the 29th of May
SAINT BURIENA, VIRGIN
Saint Buriena [Buriana, Burian], commemorated on May 29 [also May 1, June 4], was a virgin in Ireland, who lived in the 7th century. She is venerated in the area of Cornwall in England, where there is a village bearing her name (St-Buriens).
(Information from Stadler's Complete Encyclopedia of Saints, 1858)
She is said to have been the daughter of an Irish king. She travelled from Ireland to Cornwall as a missionary to convert the local people to Christianity. According to the Exeter Calendar of Martyrology Buriana was the daughter of a Munster chieftain.
One legend tells how she cured the paralysed son of King Geraint of Dumnonia. Buriana ministered from a chapel on the site of the parish church at St Buryan.
