BLESSED ANGELUS OF CANTANEA, ABBOT
Blessed Angelus was a native of Catanea in Sicily and, in order to consecrate himself totally to God, he entered the Order of St Benedict in the monastery of San Nicolò l'Arena on that island.
Later, he became abbot of the monastery of San Martino delle Scale in Palermo, which was somewhat unorganised. Blessed Angelus raised it up from its decline and, by his tireless zeal and his admirable humility, was a blessing in every respect.
In A.D. 1380, he passed to his eternal reward. Angelus was buried in this monastery under the altar of St Nicholas (according to others, the altar of St Michael). In some Benedictine martyrologies his name is listed on November 30, probably because of a translation. (El., Buc.)
