Saints celebrated on the 17th of May
BLESSED FRANCESCO DE DURAZZO, RELIGIOUS
[Blessed Francesco de Durazzo] (Franciscus Dyrrachinus) was born at Durrazzo (Dyrrachium), a fortified sea-town in Turkish Albania on a promontory of the Adriatic Sea.
From his early youth he lived at Assisi, and then went to the Minorite Monastery at Oria, where he led a holy life. He worked many miracles and died towards the end of the 14th century. He was buried in the Franciscan church there.
In his Menologium, Hueber* speaks of a Franciscus de Durazzo on March 14, and says he flourished in Apulia around the year 1359. On May 17, however, he mentions Franciscus Dyrrachinus, who would have, according to this author, died around 1506 at Oria in Apulia. (IV. 43.)
