BLESSED JOSCIO, MONK
Blessed Joscio (Jossio), a monk in the Benedictine monastery Sithiu near St Omer, died in the year 1163. Because of his innocence and lively veneration of the Blessed Virgin he was nicknamed the "Rose" (Roseus). Every day he prayed five psalms in her honour, the first letters of which taken together made up the word MARIA.
Then, after he died, five red roses sprouted from his head: two from his eyes, two from his ears and one from his mouth, and on the one that issued from his mouth the word "Maria" was miraculously inscribed. The body lay unburied for seven days in order for the miracle to be viewed first hand by all. But even after his burial, countless miracles are said to have happened through his intercession.
