HELENA OF SANTAREM, VIRGIN
Helena (Elena), a Poor Clare at Santarem on the Tagus, a daughter of King Alphons III of Portugal, was full of humility and devotion, joyfully serving at church and in the sick-room. She died in 1290 in the odour of sanctity.
Both in life and after death, but especially on the occasion of a ceremonial translation of her relics, God worked numerous miracles at her intercession. Helena is also mentioned in the Elenchus*. (Hub. Men.)
