Saints celebrated on the 4th of November
MADULPHUS OF MALMESBURY, PRIEST
Maldulphus (also spelled Maildulphus, Maidulphus, Maydulphus) is not without fame, although his veneration seems to have fallen into oblivion.
From the year 636 onwards, this holy and learned priest was tutor of Saint Adelelmus. The town of Malmesbury, which was formerly called Maildulfeburch, has its name from him. Its monastery was the nucleus around which the city was formed.
In Camerarius* Madulphus bears the title "saint". In the Anglican Martyrology he is found as a "hermit" on April 18. Ferrarius* states that this "Saint Madulphus" has his feast day on November 4.
Some calendars commemorate him on September 28.
