Saints celebrated on the 4th of October
MARIA, ABBESS OF CURICO
Maria was of the Cistercian Order and first abbess of Curico in Spain. Born into royal blood, she inspired many distinguished women to monastic life, and died in A.D. 1177, radiant with her virtues. Henriquez* calls her "blessed," Lechner* "godly," Chalemot* "venerable." (II. 323).
