MARIANUS SCOTUS, AUTHOR
Marianus Scotus is the well-known Scottish writer, born about A.D. 1028. He lived and taught in Ratisbon (Regensburg), Cologne, Fulda and Mainz, where he died in 1086.
He was a theologian, philosopher, historian and mathematician. The fact that his name is found in various martyrologies testifies his great piety.
His main work is a world history from Christ's birth to the year 1083. He also wrote the book De rebus gestis Anglorum, Annotations to the Epistles of St Paul, A Harmony of the Gospels, etc.
According to Dempster, his mortal remains were transferred to Scotland. He does not enjoy official ecclesiastical veneration, that is why the Bollandists* mention Marianus Scotus among the Praetermissi.
