SAINT BERTUIN, BISHOP
Saint Bertuin (Berthuinus, Bertwinus) was a native of Ireland. He entered the monastery at Othelle in England, where he was elected bishop. Migne* assumes that he was a regional bishop.
Subsequently called to Rome, he stayed there for two years, and thereupon went to France, where he earned much merit through his apostolic work.
Duke Pepin of Herstal gave him five mansions (villas), which he probably converted into five churches, as he is usually pictured with five churches. He died towards the end of the 7th century. (El., Buc.)
