SAINT CRESCENTIUS, SUBDEACON
Saint Crescentius, a subdeacon at Florence, born in that city of noble parents, was by them entrusted to Bishop Zenobius for his education.
He loved virtue, crucified his flesh, and was taken by everyone to be an angel.
After becoming a cleric and subdeacon, he endeavoured to imitate his superiors, Bishop Zenobius and Deacon Eugenius, working miracles, curing the blind and healing demoniacs.
He died about the year 396. His feast day, according to the Roman Martyrology* is April 19. In church art, St Crescentius, is depicted as a deacon or subdeacon, with the sick at his side.
