SAINT GEORGIUS, BISHOP OF ANTIOCH

Saint Georgius is listed in the Synaxarium of the Greeks, where he is called a confessor of Christ. From childhood he served God in faithful love, becoming a monk and then bishop of Antioch in Pisidia (Asia Minor). He died in exile because he did not recognise the decisions of the After-Council of Constantinople, or rather of Emperor Leo the Armenian, against the veneration of images. The Roman Martyrology* also commemorates him on the above day. He lived in the 9th century and is therefore easy to distinguish from the other famous St Georgius.
