SAINT GILBERT, RELIGIOUS

Saint Gilbert (Gilbertus), a native of Lorraine, served as the Emperor's soldier for a long time; but then, with much persecution on the part of his relatives, he entered a monastery and at length died there in great piety. Unfortunately it is not specified when and where. Emperor Otto I. brought his mortal remains to Rome and buried them in S. Bartolomeo in Isola. (Piazza I. 440.)
