SAINT INGENOCUS, ABBOT
According to Bucelin*, Saint Ingenocus (Idenocus) was a son of St Judicaël (Iudaëllus) and disciple of St Winoc (Winocus), as well as abbot of Bergues.
In the Elenchus* Ingenocus is listed on November 6, where the Bollandists* also mention him. Bucelin gives him the title "saint". Menardus* merely calls him "blessed." On November 15 he appears again in Bucelin's work as Idenocus, with the additional explanation that he lived at the monastery of Wormhout. (S.S. Idenocus and Winocus. [II. 371]) In some calendars, April 15 is given as St Ingenocus' feast day.
In the above context it should not be overlooked that the Bollandist Stilting* stresses the importance of distinguishing Wormhout from Bergues (Sept. II. 577. no. 127). He goes on to elaborate that Bergues is a much later foundation, the beginnings of which can be traced back to the 11th century. St Winoc and his brothers, however, flourished in the 7th and 8th centuries, therefore Bucelin must have made a mistake.
