SAINT JEREMIAH, MARTYR
Saint Jeremiah (Jeremias) was, according to Migne*, a monk of the Raithu monastery on the Red Sea, who was killed along with the monastic community in an invasion of the Blemmyer (an Ethiopian tribe) in 373. The Bollandists* mention that 43 monks of the Raithu monastery were martyred on this occasion, but do not name them.
Jeremiah's name in Hebrew is Jirmejah or Jirmejahu and means "Exaltedness of God".
