SAINT MINIAS, MARTYR
Saint Minias is listed on this day in the Roman Martyrology*; a soldier and martyr at Florence. He died under the emperor Decius for the faith of Christ, most likely in A.D. 250.
The saint had bravely and fearlessly confessed himself before the pagan judge as a "servant of Christ," and endured various tortures with patience and steadfastness. He was sentenced to death by beheading.
Relics of this saint, along with those of St Protus and Hyacinth and of a bishop called Vincent were transferred to Metz by Bishop Theodoric I (964-984). The commemoration of this translation is celebrated on July 2. Nevertheless, in Florence it is believed that our martyr's relics are kept in the crypt of the Church San Miniato.
