SAINT SABINIAN, ABBOT OF SAINT-CHAFFRE
Saint Sabinian (Sabinianus) was a Benedictine abbot at the monastery Saint-Chaffre (Monastier St Chaffre) in (Lower) Languedoc, Dep. Haute-Loire. According to Mabillon*, St Sabinian received the reward of the righteous around A.D. 740.
The monastery was originally called Calmeliacum, which is translated as Carmeri by Lechner*.
St Sabinian is not mentioned in the French Martyrology. The Elenchus* lists him on November 20. St Sabinian is also commemorated on June 8.
