SAINT ZACHAEUS OF TABENNA
Zachaeus (Zacheus) was a monk at Tabenna, disciple of St Pachomius . He lived in the 4th century and was given much to fasting and other holy exercises. Some writers ascribe to Zachaeus the title "saint".
From the history of his life we can gather that, in addition to and with his prayers, he was tirelessly devoted to the daily manual work of weaving mats, and did not want to be idle even in the sick camp. In his soul he was no less tireless in contemplating divine love and in awakening the longing for the heavenly fatherland. Even the hours of the night, though constantly ill, he devoted to the prescribed exercises. Some calendars give his feast day as August 23.
