SAINT ISICHIUS, BISHOP OF VIENNE
Saint Isichius, also known as Isicius, Isitius, Hesychius and Ysicius, was a Roman senator in Lyon. He had four children with his wife Audentia, of whom St Avitus, Apollinaris and the daughter Fuscina deserve particular mention.
Once he had become bishop he lived with his wife in constant chastity. Isichius ascended the Episcopal Chair of Vienne (France) during the times of the emperors Leo and Zeno. He ruled his See until his holy death around the year 490. The date A.D. 490 is mentioned by the Bollandists*.
In Zedler's* work Isichius is listed under the name of St Isitius I (the First) as the 20th bishop of Vienne with a time frame up to the year 508. Two different bishops of Vienne bore the name Isitius (Isichius). The 25th bishop, St Isitius II (the Second) ruled up to the year 564.
We took these two bishops from the Elenchus*, listed in their order of saints as "Hesychius 14 - senior" and "Hesychius 15 - junior" on November 12. The Bollandists* mention our St Isichius ["senior"] on March 16.
