SAINT MARINA OF OMURA, VIRGIN AND MARTYR
[In the hagiography source] Marchese* Marina bears the title "saint". She lived at Omura in Japan at the time of the severe persecution of Christians. As a faithful and zealous Christian, she provided shelter and practical help to the persecuted missionaries. At her request she was received into the Third Order of St Dominic.
Her pious work soon became known to the persecutors as well. When brought before the court, she freely confessed both that she was a Christian and that she had sheltered Christian priests in her house.
She was therefore paraded about the city naked, amid the greatest insults, and then sentenced to death by slow burning. She suffered martyrdom as a Christian heroine on November 11, 1634.
Some sources commemorate St Marina on August 16.
*March. VI. 32 et 33
