WOLPERT, FIRST ABBOT OF DEUTZ

Wolpert (Wolpertus), the first abbot of Deutz and at the same time of the monastery of St Pantaleon in Cologne, was a man of prayer and holy contemplation. He died godly in A.D. 1021, just as they were praying in the choir: » Christ, who rose from the dead, dies no more.' Mabillon* lists Wolpert with the title 'Venerable'.
