ALFRED, KING OF NORTHUMBERLAND
Alfred (Alfredus, Alfridus) was a king of Northumberland in England. He died on December 14, 705. It is reported by some hagiographers who list him among the "saints" that he took the monastic habit in the twenty-first year of his reign (at the monastery of Melrose on the River Tweed in Scotland), and died bishop of Lindisfarne.
Alfred is also remembered on January 15, March 14, May 15, July 19, and July 23.
