BLESSED RICHERIUS OF MUCCIA
Blessed Richerius (Rizericus, Ricerius, Rigirius) (Rizericus a Mutina), a Companion of Saint Francis of Assisi and a native of Modena, is called “blessed” by the writers of his Order. Famous in virtues and miracles, he died in A.D. 1236. Richerius' tomb can be found at Muccia near Camerino. His intercession is requested particularly by those suffering from fever.
His place of birth is not known. He was studying in Bologna at the same time that St Francis preached there, and, choosing voluntary poverty for Christ's sake, placed himself under his direction. Once, when tormented by severe temptations, the holy Founder of the Order freed him from those by making the Sign of the Cross on Richerius' forehead. The veneration this holy man enjoyed from time immemorial was approved by Pope Gregory XVI on December 14, 1838.
Blessed Richerius is also commemorated on March 26.
