BLESSED ZECHARIAH, RELIGIOUS
Blessed Zechariah (Zacharias) was a companion of Saint Francis of Assisi who sent him to Portugal.
He defended the truth of the Catholic faith against the Albigensians with good success and with obvious miracles. It was also said of him that one day the Saviour spoke to him from a Crucifix. He died at Alenquer, a small town in the diocese of Lisbon, with a reputation for great holiness.
He was later raised from his grave and buried under the altar together with an unnamed confrere who was famous for his chastity. According to Artur*, Blessed Zechariah died on January 20. The Bollandists* mention him on May 3.
