ENGELBERT OF ALKMAAR, RELIGIOUS AND MARTYR
Engelbert (Engelbertus), a Franciscan lay monk from the Alkmaar monastery in Holland, was martyred by hanging along with five of his fellow brothers because of their steadfast confession of the Catholic faith. This gruesome deed was performed by fanatical heretics around the year 1572. The martyrology of his Order mentions Engelbert on October 10.
