VENERABLE ERCHANBERT, ABBOT OF ALTAICH
Venerable Erchanbert (Erchanbertus) was praised by Emperor Otto III because of his excellent qualities. At the insistence of Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg [Ratisbon] and Bishop Pilgrinus of Passau Erchanbert was transferred to the Altaich monastery near Straubing, where he became abbot. As such he won Saint Godard [Saint Gotthard] for the Rule of Saint Benedict, resigned his position as head of the monastery in favour of him and completed his godly life as a simple monk. (Buc. Suppl.)
