JOHN, ABBOT
John (Johannes) was the 2nd (3rd) abbot on the
Blandijnberg (the 7th century Benedictine St Peter's Abbey founded by Saint Amand) in Ghent, a man of grace, wisdom and eloquence. His name was widely known, so much so that his monastery was usually called "John's Abbey" (Johanneskloster) at the time. According to the Bollandists*, he died in 658; but this appears to be a misprint, since Lechner* and Bucelin*, who call him "saint", both state the year 685.
John is also remembered on July 12.
