Saints celebrated on the 17th of July
Martin (Martinus) of Saint Mary is remembered on July 17 in the A.S.*. According to the Seraphic Martyrology*, who lists him on August 6, he was a Franciscan who lived and died in the Diocese of Burgos, Spain. As related there, he was mute in his youth, and after fervent prayers to the holy Mother of God obtained the power of speech. For this reason he remained her most fervent admirer throughout his life and therefore also received his religious name "of Mary". He was exceedingly humble and charitable. After his holy death in A.D. 1607, his corpse smelled sweet, and miracles were performed at his grave. The Bollandists* mention Martin of Saint Mary among the Praetermissi on June 13.
