SAINT CYPRIAN, ABBOT
Saint Cyprian (Cyprianus)(Subran, Cyvran), an abbot in France, devoted himself from youth to the service of God, and took the monastic habit at a monastery whose abbot was called Saval or Savalo. He was a contemporary of King Clothar I (511–561).
Having attained the highest level of hermit life, he moved to a wasteland in the Dordogne, where he built a hermitage, from which grew the present town of Saint-Cyprien. He died at the end of the 6th century. The Roman Martyrology* lists his feast day as December 9. (El., But.)
