SAINT GRATIAN, MARTYR
Saint Gratian (Gratianus), St Gratien in French, was a martyr who, according to the Bollandists*, has enjoyed ecclesiastical veneration in the bishoprics of Amiens and Paris from time immemorial.
According to Migne*, he lived in what is now Picardy and was reported to the Gallic prefect Rictiovarus for being a Christian. Since Gratian vigorously resisted to sacrifice to the gods, he was beheaded around the year 287 (in the reign of Emperor Maximianus).
His relics were kept in Paris until 1830, but since then they have been lost and it is not known where they went to. (Mg.)
