SAINT HESYCHIUS, BISHOP AND MARTYR
Saint Hesychius was a bishop in Egypt and died for the faith under Galerius Maximianus. He is also mentioned in the Roman Martyrology*. As Companions in his martyrdom the Bollandists* list the Egyptian bishops Phileas (together with a Roman war tribune called Philoromus), Pachomius and Theodorus, Faustus, Didius, Ammonius, and also a Bishop Peter of Alexandria. 660 others were martyred with them. According to the Bollandists*, who specify February 18 as their feast day, Saint Hesychius is the editor of an improved Septuagint. This work was praised by Saint Jerome in his writings.
