SAINT HILDEBERT, ABBOT OF FONTENELLE
The name Hildebert is derived from the Old German bert, brecht, which means "in battle", and child [hild], "famous".
Saint Hildebert (Hildebertus), also called Childebertus (according to Migne*), was the fourth abbot of Fontenelle. He died a holy death in the year 700. He was buried in St Vandrille, where his relics were reverently kept until the destruction of this famous monastery. He is venerated on on February 18. (But. IX. 607.)
