SAINT LEGONTIUS, BISHOP OF TRIER
Saint Legontius (Leguntius, Leontius, Liconcius, Ligontius) was the 34th bishop of Trier [Treves]. According to some, he died on February 19, 409.
Our Saint Legontius came from an old noble family and by his holy life spread piety and virtue among his flock.
(According to Ebeling*, who does not accept the first 26 bishops of Trier but rather begins the Trier bishop series with Saint Agritius, who was present at the Council of Arles in 314 and is described by Zedler* as the first Archbishop of Trier, our Saint Legontius is not of Trier but rather the bishop Saint Leontius of Bordeaux.)
Incidentally, our holy bishop Legontius is listed in many ancient martyrologies, except the Roman Martyrology*.
