ANNA OF JESUS, VIRGIN
Anna of Jesus (Anna a Jesu) who is listed by some hagiographers as "Blessed Anna" and by others among the "Venerable", was born in Medina del Campo in 1545 of a very respectable family. She joined the Discalced Carmelites which were being formed by Saint Teresa at the time. Anna subsequently supported the saint in her efforts.
After Saint Teresa's death Anna spread the Discalced Carmelites into other countries, founding monasteries in France and Belgium.
She died in Brussels on March 4, 1621, at the age of 76. Don Manriquez described her life in Spanish and it was printed in folio at Brussels in 1652. Gaultier was the first to publish it in French; Abbé de Montes issued her vita in Paris in 1788. As far as we know, there exists no German translation of this work.
